Why Export Notion to Excel?

Notion is an all-in-one workspace that blends note-taking, project management, and databases into a single platform, offering users a flexible and visually intuitive way to organise information. It's user-friendly, adaptable, and perfect for team collaboration across various use cases like task tracking and content planning, without needing advanced technical skills.

However, exporting Notion to Excel unlocks additional functionality. Here are the top 3 reasons to export Notion data to Excel:

  • Backup your Notion data. Exporting Notion data to Excel ensures you have a local backup of your information, providing peace of mind that your data is safe on your device even if something happens to your Notion workspace.

  • Access your Notion data offline. Once imported into Excel, your Notion data becomes accessible offline, giving you the flexibility to work without an internet connection and refresh the data when online again.

  • Perform advanced analysis on your Notion data. While Notion offers robust organisational features, Excel is a powerful tool for data analysis, allowing you to perform complex calculations and insights that Notion may not easily support.

  • Utilise SQL Queries for Dynamic Data Manipulation: By integrating your Notion data with platforms like CSVGetter, you can apply SQL queries through URL parameters to dynamically filter, sort, and manipulate your data. This adds a powerful layer of functionality, allowing for customised data retrieval without altering the original dataset.

  • Embed Dynamic, Searchable Tables: Use CSVGetter to embed your Notion data into dynamic tables that are easily searchable and filterable. This enhances user engagement by making data interactive and accessible directly on your website. This is a great way to easily show other users, colleagues, clients, or anyone the structure and layout of your data via one URL - useful when verifying the correct data is being backed up.

This tutorial is for Microsoft Excel on Windows.

First, Connect Notion to CSVGetter

Step 1.

Connect to Notion easily via OAuth or set your own Notion secret. If you are new to CSVGetter or this is your first time connecting to an import source, then you can find the connection on your account screen here:

However, if you already have connected to Airtable or integrated a CSV file into CSVGetter, then you can find your Notion integration options in the side navigation panel here:

Step 2.

You will then be asked to sign into Notion if you are not already logged in. After this step, you are able to authorise what areas of Notion CSVGetter is allowed to access. You should make sure the pages that contain your database are selected.

This is the Notion database we will be exporting:

Advanced setup

If you want to keep your Notion Export URL secure with a bearer token, then you can add this protection feature in CSV Getter. This will ensure your data is secure should you leak your Export URL.

See examples of bearer tokens here.

With this feature enabled, you will need to provide the bearer token you set in Excel. You will need to use the Advanced import option.
